On Monday, June 9, the Japanese Restaurant Association of America (JRA) hosted a special charity event, “SUSHI & SAKE FOR WILDFIRE RELIEF,” at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles in Hollywood.

The event was organized in response to the devastating wildfires that occurred near the Los Angeles area earlier this year in January. Originally, JRA had planned to hold its annual New Year gathering during the same period, but out of respect for those affected by the disaster, it was canceled. Instead, with the question “What can we do as part of the Japanese food industry?” in mind, restaurants and food-related businesses came together in solidarity to make this charity event a reality.
The event featured a delightful lineup of authentic Japanese cuisine and beverages—from sushi and yakitori to sake and okonomiyaki. Guests also received souvenir gifts, making the evening not only meaningful but truly memorable. Thanks to the support and participation of so many, the venue was filled with a lively, warm, and welcoming atmosphere from start to finish.

We received heartfelt feedback from attendees such as, “It was a memorable evening with great food and new connections,” “The food and drinks were amazing!” and “I can’t wait for the next event!” Exhibitors also shared their appreciation, saying “It was an honor to participate,” and “Please invite us again!” Seeing everyone’s smiles was the greatest reward for us.
In terms of fundraising, we’re happy to report that the event raised a total of $14,150. All operational costs were covered entirely by JRA, allowing us to donate the full amount to the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund on June 20.
When we delivered the donation, we were told, “We’ve received support from Japanese companies in the past, but never in the form of a large-scale event like this. We are truly grateful.” We sincerely hope this donation reaches those who are still struggling to rebuild their lives and brings them even a small measure of relief.

This event was made possible thanks to the cooperation of so many individuals and organizations. And above all, it was your participation and support that made it a success. From the bottom of our hearts—thank you!
